Scripture of the Day – May 8, 2025

The Scripture readings for May 8, 2025, highlight three powerful themes: faith, eternal life, and sharing the Good News. Through the story of Philip, the words of Jesus, and the psalms of praise, we are reminded of God’s love and the promise of salvation.

First Reading – Acts 8:26–40

In this reading, Philip is guided by the Holy Spirit to meet an Ethiopian official who is reading the book of Isaiah. Philip explains the Scriptures to him and tells him about Jesus. The official believes and is baptized right away.

Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 66:8–9, 16–17, 20

“Bless our God, you peoples; let the sound of his praise be heard.”
This psalm celebrates God’s faithfulness and how He listens to our prayers.

Gospel – John 6:44–51

Jesus says, “I am the bread of life… Whoever eats this bread will live forever. The bread I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.”
>> This passage is central to the Christian faith. Jesus offers Himself to give us eternal life. Believing in Him leads to spiritual nourishment and salvation.

Verse of the Day – Alternative Selections

Matthew 5:9 – “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”
➤ A call to bring peace in a world that needs it.
Isaiah 26:12 – “LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.”
➤ A reminder that true peace and success come from God alone.

Reflection for May 8, 2025

Today’s scriptures encourage us to share our faith like Philip, trust in Jesus for eternal life, and live as peacemakers. Whether through baptism, praise, or daily actions, God calls each of us to be part of His plan.
